Frequently asked questions
Can Custom Maps provide maps of any place, anywhere in the world?
Yes. Custom Maps utilizes source data to produce new maps. If data exists of any place, anywhere, Custom Maps can reproduce a tailored map from that source.
How is a map made?
There are many methods. Custom Maps uses a 3 stage method. Firstly, base data is sourced and drafted from existing hard copy products, or derived from existing digital sources using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) software. Secondly, this data is edited and manipulated to suit the intended scale and size of the final product. Finally, the data is arranged and designed with Illustration software to produce a final product.
What is the difference between a map and a plan?
Basically, it all comes down to scale. Maps and plans are both scale drawings of real world areas. A “Map” is generally of 1:10 000 scale or greater (1 unit on the map represents
10 000 units in the real world). A “plan” is anything from 1:1 up to that scale. The method that Custom Maps uses to produce maps can also be used to produce plans.
Can Custom Maps make plans for Websites?
